Horseshoes & Hand Grenades
Canadian singer/songwriter BILLY THE KID has teamed up with folk, punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner (Million Dead, Mongol Horde) who produced the record and plays alongside drummer Nigel Powell (The Sleeping Souls).Billy says of 'Horseshoes & Hand Grenades': 'I definitely took Frank's lead as far as how to approach the recording process. Eventually it became apparent that we were a pretty good team but he came up with the concept of recording 'live off the floor' which I think contributed a lot to the finished product... I just think it sounds badass.'Her voice is immediately introduced on album opener 'Phone Bills', while Nigel's ricocheting drums hesitate, roll and jump ahead of her, then everything collides in synchronicity. 'The Quarry''s sublime picking leads into evocative lines about fleeing an unnamed town, the stumbling drums playing the part of unknown pursuers' rapidly gaining footsteps.'Horseshoes & Hand Grenades' showcases Billy's tender laments, tied up in beyond-her-years experience and the ever-present signature of hope. Recorded in London with bare bones arrangements, it allows Billy's natural storytelling and lithe voice to guide the listener through her world and her life.
